Colombia offers many ways to meet people - online platforms, events, or everyday encounters. Each path has its own traits and risks.
As tourism grew, dating apps became popular too: Tinder, Bumble, and local alternatives. Online dating carries serious risks: criminals use fake profiles to lure victims into traps - from robbery and extortion to kidnapping, sometimes with fatal outcomes.
Typical dangers
Drugged or spiked drinks in a bar, restaurant, or hotel - then robbery. Invitations to leave safe neighborhoods - robbery or kidnapping. Fake taxi: “home” becomes robbery or abduction. Data collected on a visit (you brought them home but left quickly) - apartment robbed when you are away.

Street sex work and crime
Prostitution is legal in Colombia, but criminal groups use the industry to pull tourists into dangerous situations. Foreigners seeking casual encounters often become victims of robbery, blackmail, or kidnapping.
Illegal networks
Underground networks involve women and children in sex trafficking. Tourists unaware of these schemes can unintentionally support illegal activity and face legal consequences.
Fake offers
Some criminals lure tourists with promises of intimate services. Instead of a “romantic evening” you may be robbed or assaulted. Caution and meetings only in safe, busy places are critical.
Minimum before a meetup
- Busy public place daytime/evening; do not go to their home from the first chat.
- Ride-hailing app, not “a friend will pick you up.”
