Do not mix up three layers: PIP (entry stamp / tourist permission), a Cancillería visa (V / M / R with categories), and cédula de extranjería (ID card after a longer visa). Below is a section map and a short glossary.
Glossary
PIP / tourist stay
Entry on passport without a visa (or a short visitor visa). Often up to 90 days; extension is a separate Migración process - not a “nomad” visa.
Visa V
Visitante: student, volunteer, some temporary purposes. Example: study.
Visa M
Migrante: nomad, work, partner, some business categories. Path toward a cédula.
Visa R
Resident: long-term status after you meet the conditions.
Cédula de extranjería
Foreigner ID after Migración processing. Needed for EPS, many banks and loans.
Apply online: Cancillería SITAC. Portals: Government sites.
