In Colombia “mail” is not only 4-72. Documents and parcels usually move via private couriers: Servientrega, Coordinadora, Interrapidísimo. The state operator is for letters and cheaper international sends; for urgent and valuable items people pick a courier or DHL/FedEx.

How to write an address
Couriers do not look for “building 3 entrance” - they need: city → barrio → calle/carrera → number → apto/torre → phone. Without a mobile number delivery often stalls.
Typical line: Cra. 43A # 1-50, Apto 802, El Poblado, Medellín + WhatsApp. Add a landmark (“near Éxito”, “portería Torres del Parque”) - it really speeds things up. Código postal helps on international forms; domestically couriers rely more on barrio and phone.
In gated complexes parcels are often left with the portero or building office - warn security and write your surname large on the box.
4-72 - state post
4-72 - national operator: correspondence and parcels domestically and abroad. Inside Colombia it suits letters and light sends (up to ~2 kg) with delivery confirmation.
International service Encomienda Internacional - shipments to 190+ countries, up to 30 kg, with declared value. Transit times depend on route and customs. Usually need ID copy, contents list and commercial invoice. Inbound parcels are dutiable above the threshold (from the US up to ~200 USD often exempt - check current rules). Domestic couriers
Servientrega - the most everyday courier: documents, parcels, e-commerce. International shipping available; from the US see servientrega.us (Miami, New York, Houston, etc.).
Coordinadora - strong on domestic and export routes, 220+ countries. Parcels up to 70 kg; declared value depends on tariff (postal / export). Often door pickup; waybill, labeling and invoice required.
Interrapidísimo and similar networks - another familiar “city to city” option for documents and boxes. Compare rates on send day: one operator’s promo may beat your usual brand.
DHL, FedEx, UPS - in Bogotá, Medellín and other major cities. Good for urgent and valuable items; prices noticeably above local couriers.
International shipping
Documents from Bogotá (and sometimes Quito) to major hubs: Logística Inteligente +7 968 646 2944. Before sending confirm prohibited items and whether passport/invoice is needed.
Express to/from Colombia: courier may pick up within an hour, delivery often 24–72 hours, ballpark from ~$600+ depending on weight and route. Economy - 21–28 days, from ~$100+. Compare via aggregators such as tsm.bz.
Sea from Cartagena and Barranquilla ports - 45–55 days: equipment, clothing, bulky cargo. Air is faster and pricier, often from ~200 kg batches. Quotes and customs - logistics firms like GlobalPost. Figures are orientation - get a fresh quote for your weight and HS code.
Tracking and habits
Save the tracking number immediately: 4-72 - on site or ParcelsApp; Servientrega, Coordinadora, DHL, FedEx - on their sites. If status stalls at customs - normal for days or weeks; ask the operator if extra documents are needed.
Do not send valuables “as is” without insurance and a contents list. For inbound purchases from abroad budget duty and time - do not plan a birthday deadline that way.
