Cali is a major city in southwest Colombia, known for salsa, warm climate, and a calmer (compared to Medellín) expat pace. Sun, heat, and health
Tropical climate: days often 28–32°C, high humidity. For daytime walks — SPF, water, hat. Sun is harsh; dehydration and heat stroke are real risks.
After being outside, don’t jump into an ice-cold shower or blast AC immediately — give 10 minutes to cool to room temperature. Don’t walk barefoot on cold floors right after heat; don’t chug ice water from the fridge.

North / Menga and surroundings
Check case by case: some zones are good on price and road access, but newcomers should rely on reviews and estrato, not a “cheap Airbnb” alone.
Center
Cheaper but noisier and riskier for newcomers at night. Don’t start here blindly.
Housing: Rent. Before signing, confirm noise, AC, and internet stability.
Transport and daily life
Core — MIO (BRT) + city buses; top up card/app in advance. Short trips and evenings — Uber / DiDi / inDrive, not street taxis.
